Is MassMutual Not Paying Your Disability Insurance Claim?

REPRESENTING MASS MUTUAL DISABILITY INSURANCE POLICYHOLDERS

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance is owned by the MassMutual Financial Group, a provider of financial services including life insurance, annuities, money management, and retirement planning. Founded in 1851, MassMutual’s clients include individuals and businesses. Originally, the insurer sold individual life insurance but branched out into annuities and disability coverage. Today, the company continues to offer disability income insurance and long-term care insurance as well as structured settlement annuities, and trust services.   In 1996 they merged with Connecticut Mutual. It also acquired Antares Leveraged Capital Corp. (commercial finance) and Charter Oak Capital Management (investment advisory services). MassMutual sold its Life & Health Benefits Management subsidiary the following year.   In 2001 MassMutual policyholders defeated a proposal by some to convert the company to stockholder ownership. Thus, the company remains a mutual enterprise today.
